Rules

The 12 Hours of Stank starts at high noon on the 3th of November with a Lemans style start.  It will be a short run to the bikes with the experts having a 10 second head start.

Rider exchanges

Each team will be assigned a bracelet  that must be passed from rider to rider.  The exchange takes place in a designated area in front of race officials.  A rider may ride more than one lap in a row, however, each team member must complete at least two laps during the race.  There will be no stated penalty for lost bracelets but the team will lose the time it takes for race officials to round up a replacement bracelet.  A team cannot go for more than one hour without a rider on the course.  (This rule enables two rider teams to have a break.)

Breakdowns

If a team member breaks down at any point during the race, they can only return on the race course, going the race direction!  If it is determined that a teammate needs assistance out on the course, another member of the team may (after checking in with race officials) head out to assist, staying on the race course, going race direction!  Be prepared!

It is mandatory that each team member have a backup light source (Maglite, etc.) for safety considerations and to enable members to finish the race when their bike lights go dead.  (Yes, we speak from experience, it happened last year.)

The Finish

The finish takes place when the last team member on the course finishes after Midnight.

Scenario A:  Team A heads out at 8:05 PM.  They finish with 13 laps at 9:02 PM.  Team B heads out at 8:01 PM.  They cross the finish line at 8:58 PM.  They make an exchange and head back out to finish with 14 laps, thus defeating Team A.

Scenario B:  Team B comes in at 8:58 and, realizing that Team A is 4 minutes back, waits until 9:00  to cross the line.  Team B still defeats Team A By 2 minutes.

Trust me, there will be a line of racers crawling across the line at 9:00.

Post race

This is when the fun starts. . .
